One of the themes of the workshop is the theory of character sheaves. These are certain irreducible perverse sheaves on a reductive algebraic group which can be viewed as a geometric analogue of the irreducible characters of a group over a finite field. The theory of character sheaves was developed in the 1980's, but recently there has been new progress in understanding the classification of character sheaves (and representations of groups over a finite fields) based on the notion of categorical center of a tensor category. It is hoped that these topics will be discussed among other things in the lectures.
The workshop consists of a series of lectures given by Professor Lusztig and several research talks covering various aspects of the representation theory of algebraic groups.
