Over the last three decades, String Theory has continuously been serving as a source of new ideas in Mathematics, and it has inspired major advancements in various areas including Complex Algebraic Geometry, Symplectic Topology, Representation Theory, Number Theory, etc. It also gives birth to Mirror Symmetry, which is by now a very trendy subject in its own right and has attracted a lot of attention from both Mathematicians and Physicists. Recently, there has been much progress in the two main approaches to Mirror Symmetry, namely, Kontsevich's Homological Mirror Symmetry conjecture and the Strominger‐Yau‐Zaslow conjecture. On the other hand, we have also seen major breakthroughs in subjects closely related to Mirror Symmetry, such as Gromov‐Witten Theory, Donaldson‐Thomas Theory and Tropical Geometry. So it is definitely the right time to organize a conference with participation by leading experts all over the world on Mathematics inspired by String Theory.
AIM: By bringing together International and Chinese researchers and graduate students who work on Mathematics related to String Theory, this conference will not only serve as a platform for the leading experts to exchange ideas and possibly start collaborations, but also as a gateway for beginners to enter this fascinating world where we see beautiful interactions between Mathematics and Physics. We plan to organize the conference in such a way that participants can have plenty of time to discuss and interact. Speakers are expected to focus on the key ideas and big picture in their talks, and new comers, especially graduate students and junior researchers can make use of the discussion time to talk to the experts and even ask for more details of their talks. We hope that the participants, no matter they are beginners or experts, can benefit the most in this way.
