Representation theory of algebras can trace its history back to the work of Hamilton who discovered the famous algebra of quaternions and Cayley who developed matrix theory. By acquiring ideas and methods from other areas (e.g., Lie algebras, homological algebra, category theory, algebraic geometry), representation theory of algebras grew rapidly over the last forty years. The most profound developments include representation theory of quivers, Auslander-Reiten theory, tilting theory and derived categories of algebras, etc. Throughout its development, the theory is closely related to various branches of mathematics, e.g., Lie algebras, representations of groups, invariant theory, algebraic geometry, algebraic groups and quantum groups. Recently, it has played important roles in quantization, categorification, and geometric representation theory.
The series of International Conferences on Representations of Algebras (ICRA) was established in 1974. The purpose of these conferences is to bring together leading and well established experts, as well as young researchers, in order to exchange the latest results in this rapidly developing area. There usually is an accompanied workshop where recent advances on representation theory and related topics are presented in detailed exposition. Since its establishment, the series of conferences became the most influential and highest-level conferences on representation theory of algebras. The previous 15 conferences have been successfully held in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Norway, Germany, China, Poland, Brazil, etc.
At ICRA XI (Mexico, 2004) the scientific committee decided to establish an ICRA AWARD which will be awarded at each session of ICRA for outstanding work by young mathematicians in the field of Representations of Finite Dimensional Algebras.
The 16th conference (ICRA 2014) will be held at Tsinghua Sanya International Mathematics Forum (TSIMF), Sanya City, Hainan, China.
Workshop: August 20--23, 2014 (Wednesday--Saturday)
Conference: August 25--29, 2014 (Monday--Friday)
