Operator splitting techniques were first developed in the seventies by Prof. Glowinski and his collaborators. It has found many important applications recently in many disciplines in applied mathematics and engineering. Fast algorithms based on splitting techniques are of particular importance in data analysis and signal and image processing. The workshop aims at bringing together researchers, scientists and graduate students from China and abroad to exchange and stimulate ideas in operator splitting techniques and their applications to complex systems and large scale data analysis. It will provide a venue for dialogue and collaboration between theoreticians in optimization and the computational scientists in the field so that the gap between the researchers working on the fundamentals and those working on real-life applications can be reduced.
